Knowledge is Power
The era we live in is called service economy, information age and knowledge society.
Why? Today the majority of jobs (United States, Europe and Japan) are in the service sector and the number is on the rise, because there are less work for production workers and less manufacturing jobs.
Compared to the past, info and knowledge have become more important. The information services are pervasive and knowledge is essential factor of production. The knowledge and skills define international competitiveness. The Raw materials of the new economy is information, education and knowledge.
Current trends
The current trends are that the number of service sector jobs is on the rise, there are more part-time jobs (esp. among women) and more people are self-employed. Negative aspects of these trends are less security and less benefits. There are also fewer permanent full-time jobs.
In addition, there are higher demands (specialized knowledge, computer literacy, multiskilled) to get a highly paid job.
Future fitness/trends
According to labor market analysts, info and knowledge will become even more vital, info services will be pervasive, applying info to solve problems will be valued above all else, computer literacy will be basic requirement, people will be classified as knowledge worker or service workers (= white-collar w. / blue-collar w.), more people will hold part-time jobs.
There will be a movement from standardized production toward more flexible, customized manufacturing.
That means it will be fewer needed to make the production, because of the due to technological advances. There is a future in manufacturing but it is less bright for jobs on the factory floor. Moreover there will be low-wage jobs or low-productivity jobs may be automated out of existence. In addition, there will be more losers than winners. Job creation: There will be more jobs in unskilled occupations (low wages). On the other hand there will be more flexible, customized manufacturing. People will spend their time thinking of ways to meet the demands of customers.

Consequences for the future applicants are that they should be multiskilled. So they must to increase the efficiency of knowledge and acquire greater knowledge through education and training to take full advantage of the technologies, which we possess. To keep up with others they are taken training classes.
Furthermore permanent training and education is essential. The applicants must also have a flexibility and adaptability to changes at work. Future applicants have to reckon with the fact that they will have to change careers several times. They will need specialized skills to survive
Occupations expected to grow in the future are system analysts, computer scientists / programmers, medical assistants and management analysts.
